Hiring an AI SEO or GEO agency in Singapore: what to check before you pay

By Karts C · Updated 8 November 2026

Before you pay an AI SEO agency, GEO agency or AEO agency in Singapore, ask which prompts they will track, what baseline they will measure first, what they will change on your site and how you can leave the contract. These agencies try to get your business named in answers from ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Claude and Perplexity. Much of the work is ordinary SEO, and no agency controls what an assistant says. This guide explains the terms, the questions to ask and the red flags, and lists published prices for agency work and for the tracking tools agencies use, all checked on 8 November 2026.

What do GEO, AEO and AI SEO agencies actually do?

GEO, AEO and AI SEO are different names for the same job: getting a business named, quoted or linked in answers from AI assistants. The terms overlap almost completely, and agencies use whichever one their buyers search for. In Singapore, searches for "geo agency singapore" were zero every month until July 2025 and now average about 600 a month, with 929 in October 2026, in Ahrefs data pulled on 8 November 2026. The broader term "ai seo agency" averages about 700, "aeo agency singapore" about 450 and "ai seo agency singapore" about 350. The short definitions below are how the terms are used in agency proposals.

Most of the work overlaps with ordinary SEO. Google says there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and Google's Gary Illyes said in July 2025 that normal SEO practices are enough to appear in AI Overviews. The parts specific to AI answers are smaller: allowing the right crawlers, tracking a fixed set of prompts across several assistants, rewriting service pages so each section answers one question in its first sentence, and getting your business named on the third-party pages assistants cite. A proposal should show which line items are ordinary SEO and which are the AI-specific part.

What can an AI SEO agency promise, and what can't it?

No agency can promise that ChatGPT, Claude or Google will name your business. One Singapore agency says so in its own FAQ: no agency controls which brands an AI platform mentions or which pages it cites. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Large publishers that sell AI-visibility packages to brands have also told buyers they cannot guarantee appearance in AI answers, according to a June 2026 trade report. Anyone who guarantees you a placement is promising an outcome that nobody, including the agency, can control.

What an agency can promise is work you can check: named changes to your site, a fixed set of prompts tracked on a schedule, a number of outreach attempts to get you mentioned on other sites, and a report comparing before and after. The results will move around. A July 2026 study of 161,286 prompts found only 3.8% of sources were cited by all four engines it tested for the same prompt. Most studies in this field come from companies selling AI-visibility tools and measure correlation, so treat their figures as a rough guide and ask an agency which ones its plan rests on.

Questions to ask before you sign

Ask for the prompt list before you sign, because the prompts decide what the report will show. An agency tracking 20 prompts it chose, worded around your brand name, will report better numbers than one tracking the questions your buyers actually type. Agree the prompts together, in your buyers' words, and ask how each will be run: which assistants, how often, from which country, and logged in or not, since answers vary with these. One tool founder's outline for agencies puts a typical AI visibility audit at 20 to 50 prompts, with screenshots of each answer and a competitor comparison.

Get the contract terms in writing before the first invoice. Some marketing platforms lock buyers in: a 2026 pricing write-up of one large B2B directory describes an initial 12-month term, no early cancellation and automatic renewal unless cancelled in writing five business days before. For AI visibility work, where no study has measured how long results take, a three-month first term with monthly reports is a fair request. One Singapore agency's own FAQ tells clients to treat the first 90 days as an implementation and learning period. Ask who owns the content, accounts and tracking data if you leave.

Red flags in an AI SEO proposal

Walk away from a proposal that guarantees a placement in ChatGPT or a top spot in Google's AI Overviews. Nobody controls those answers, and a guarantee can be met by tracking prompts the agency already wins, such as your own brand name. Be equally wary of an "AI visibility score" that arrives with no list of prompts and no screenshots of the answers behind it. A score you cannot trace back to specific prompts cannot be checked by you or compared with any other tool, and it can rise without a single new buyer seeing your name.

Bulk AI-written articles are a second red flag. Google's spam policies cover scaled content abuse, where many pages are generated mainly to manipulate search rankings, whatever tool produced them. A package priced by the number of posts per month is selling volume, and volume is what that policy targets. Ask to see three articles the agency has published for other clients, and check whether each contains facts a reader could not find elsewhere: prices, dates, named sources, first-hand detail. If the samples could describe any business in any city, expect the same for yours.

Paid link packages are the third. Google's spam policy lists buying or selling links that pass ranking credit as link spam, and paid links are only acceptable when marked rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow". For AI answers the link type barely registers: an October 2025 study of 1,000 domains found followed and nofollow links correlated with AI mentions at almost the same level. Question two more items if you see them. An llms.txt file sold as a fix: Google's John Mueller said in June 2025 that no AI system currently uses llms.txt. FAQ schema: Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026.

How much do AI SEO agencies charge?

Published agency prices are scarce, and the few that exist give a rough range. One Singapore agency's service page lists a GEO add-on from about S$1,000 a month and a core programme from S$2,500 a month, checked on 8 November 2026. The founder of an AI-tracking tool, writing for agencies, put one-off AI visibility audits at EUR 1,200 to 2,500, monthly monitoring at EUR 800 to 1,500, and monitoring with content at EUR 2,500 to 5,000. Those figures are European and the post gives no source for them, so use them only to judge whether a quote is far outside the norm.

Compare the quote with what you will receive. An audit is worth paying for if it hands you the prompt list, a screenshot of each answer, the sites each assistant cited and a list of changes to make, which is the deliverable set in that same founder's post. A monthly retainer should name its tasks and hours. If most of a retainer is a tool report, the tool prices in the next section show what that part costs on its own. A February 2026 trade report found agencies had struggled to sell AI visibility tools on their own because clients saw limited results from the insights alone.

What do AI visibility tracking tools cost?

Self-serve tracking tools run a set of prompts through several assistants on a schedule and log who gets named and which pages are cited. Published prices start at US$29 a month. The prices below were read on each tool's own pricing or help page on 8 November 2026. One German publisher group's AI visibility audits for brands, for example, run on Peec AI and a second tracker. Ask an agency which tool it uses and how many prompts it runs for you, then compare the reporting part of its fee with the plan that covers the same number of prompts.

For a single event vendor, 15 to 50 prompts covers the main services in a few phrasings each. If an agency charges S$1,000 a month for reporting alone, check the tool and prompt count behind it. A spreadsheet and an hour a month of running prompts by hand costs nothing and shows you the same answers, without the trend charts. Answers differ between runs and between assistants, so record the date, the assistant and the exact wording each time, and compare like with like from month to month.

What can you do in-house before hiring an agency?

A Singapore SME can do the first round of AI visibility work itself in a few afternoons, and doing so makes any later agency report easier to judge. The free steps are the ones agencies start with: let the crawlers in, put your prices and capacity in plain text, make your name and address match everywhere, and get named on third-party lists. In a March 2026 study of 75,000 AI answers, third-party lists made up 80.9% of listicle citations in professional services, so getting onto independent guides for your category is the step with the most evidence behind it.

Run the steps below for three months and keep a log. If you are named for some prompts and missing from others, you will know which services to brief an agency on, and you will have your own baseline to hold its reports against. If nothing changes after three months, an agency audit at that point starts from facts you collected yourself, and you can ask the agency to skip the data collection you have already done. Bing Webmaster Tools also has a free AI Performance report, added in February 2026, that shows how often your pages are cited in Copilot and Bing's AI summaries.

How long does AI SEO take to show results?

No published study has measured how long it takes from a change on your site to your first mention in ChatGPT, Claude or Google's AI answers. The first step is fast. OpenAI says robots.txt changes reach its crawler in about 24 hours, and one site's server logs in June 2026 showed Bing crawling 40 new articles within 3 to 6 hours of an IndexNow ping. Being crawled is a long way from being named, though. One Singapore agency tells clients to treat the first 90 days as an implementation and learning period, and that is a fair minimum.

Getting named on other sites takes longer. A Singapore PR guide updated in October 2026 puts first press coverage at two to four weeks of active pitching for a strong story, and consistent coverage at three to six months. Mentions on small sites also fade: in an August 2026 study, only 44.3% of low-authority domains cited in April were still cited in June. Budget for six months of work before judging results, and ask the agency to report monthly so you can stop early if nothing moves on the prompts you agreed.

Questions vendors ask

What is the difference between GEO, AEO and AI SEO?

Very little in practice. GEO (generative engine optimisation) and AEO (answer engine optimisation) both mean getting a business named or quoted in AI answers, and AI SEO is the umbrella term. Google says there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond normal search eligibility, so most of the work overlaps with ordinary SEO.

Can an AI SEO agency guarantee my business will appear in ChatGPT?

No. One Singapore agency's own FAQ says no agency controls which brands an AI platform mentions or which pages it cites. Answers also differ between engines: a July 2026 study of 161,286 prompts found only 3.8% of sources were cited by all four engines tested for the same prompt.

How much does an AI SEO agency cost in Singapore?

Few agencies publish prices. One Singapore agency lists a GEO add-on from about S$1,000 a month and a core programme from S$2,500 a month (checked 8 Nov 2026). Self-serve tracking tools start at US$29 a month for 15 prompts.

Do I need an llms.txt file for AI search?

No evidence says it helps. Google's John Mueller said in June 2025 that no AI system currently uses llms.txt, and a Q2 2026 study of 96,418 URLs found no measurable advantage for sites with one. A paid llms.txt package buys nothing anyone has measured.

Should I buy backlinks to appear in AI answers?

No. Google treats buying links that pass ranking credit as link spam unless they carry rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow", and an October 2025 study of 1,000 domains found followed and nofollow links correlated with AI mentions almost equally. The studies tie AI mentions to being named in the text of pages assistants read.
